Yoga Mat
A yoga mat is a thin padded surface on which you can practice yoga. They can be personal mats, or wall to wall covering. It all depends on the studio or home area you are doing yoga in. Many studios that offer yoga classes also offer other classes, such as dance or ballet classes. This means that you’ll be in a room with a hard wood floor.
Even if you only needed to sit on the floor for an hour and a half, you would be ruing taking the yoga class. Yoga being what it is, you’ll be putting body parts you didn’t know you had in contact with the floor at various points, and these body parts will appreciate all the padding you can give them. That’s where the yoga mat comes in.
In a studio situation like the one described here, the instructor will usually have a supply of personal yoga mats to go around. These are somewhere between the size of a welcome mat and a small area rug, and give a precious bit of padding for your body. They will enable you to do yoga without going home feeling like you were beaten in random areas of your body with a wooden bat. And really, you’re supposed to be doing it to feel better, so isn’t that a good idea?
