Yoga Ball
A yoga ball is a simple exercise ball that is used in yoga, rather than another form of aerobics. Aerobic exercise literally means exercise “with oxygen.” This is an important fact because it changes the way your body is creating energy for your muscles. In aerobic exercise you burn glucose with oxygen, and gradually phase in burning fats, rather than carbohydrates.
Your body does this because burning fat has a lower output than burning carbohydrates. Your body utilizes oxygen to do both, however, which is why aerobic exercise is so important to staying fit. A yoga ball doesn’t drastically change the aerobics that you do, but it does make each exercise more effective overall by involving more muscle groups than the exercise ordinarily would.
Aerobic exercise contrasts markedly with anaerobic exercise, where the body burns fuel without the benefit of oxygen. Anaerobic exercise can develop good burst capability, but muscles that are exercised in this way lack the sustainable performance that aerobic exercise offers. This is why anaerobic exercise is generally used by those who are weight training or playing a sport such as football, where brief, potent bursts of energy are required. Aerobic exercise, like that done on a yoga ball is far more useful to the average person who wants more energy and a healthier life.
