Workout Mat

A workout mat is great for many types of workouts. It provides a stable base for you to operate from, while also providing padding to make your experience more enjoyable. Seriously, have you ever tried even just standing in place for an hour on a hard surface? It’s not comfortable! The employees at Wal Mart even get pads to stand on, so you should definitely have one for working out.

That said, what’s in a workout mat? Well, a lot of that depends on the type of mat used. The most energy absorbent mats are the ones used in gymnastics and track and field events like the high jump and pole vault. These mats feature a honeycombed interior that provides the most cushioning possible, and are usually a few feet thick.

By contrast, the standard gym mat is two inches thick or less, and made of a sheet of foam encased in a vinyl covering. The exact construction of the mat will vary according to maker and quality. The competition standard mat utilizes cross linked polyethylene foam for structural integrity. These can be used as workout mats, solid state polyethylene can also be used as a cheaper alternative.
