Step Workout
A step workout utilized an object to vary the elevation of the workout. It’s intended to provide a variety of moves to work various muscle groups. It’s an especially good workout for dancers as it emphasizes movement to a beat, dance like rhythms, and group choreography. It is also commonly called step aerobics.
In a step workout, an instructor creates a set of moves that last a set duration. For instance, a basic step might take 4 beats, and a chain step may take 8, a step turn could take 4 as well. Those moves could be choreographed as such step, step (8), chain step (8), step turn (4), chain step (8), step turn (4) to get a 32 beat set that could be alternated for each leg.
This type of structure is one of the biggest attractions of a step workout. It’s easy to pick up and follow along, and it makes the process of working out less bland and tiresome. There are levels of step workout, with more advanced classes featuring more intricate choreography. Advancing from one level to the next can bring a sense of accomplishment greater than that of simply sweating for a few hours a week.
