Pilates Ball
Since Pilates exercises feature a dedication to total body fitness, rather than exercising singular muscle groups, it should come as no surprise that modern teachers have combined it with the exercise ball. These Pilates ball exercises incorporate the right breathing techniques that were founded by Pilates with the balance training that is inherent in ball exercises.
If you want to use a ball in conjunction with your Pilates, you don’t need to find a Pilates ball per se. Rather, any exercise ball on the market is a good fit for adapting regular Pilates exercises for use on a ball. The concept behind an exercise ball is that it requires more muscular tension to remain seated on a ball that will roll out from under you than it does to sit on a bench. This holds true for nearly any exercise for which you are supporting your weigh beneath a shifting center of gravity.
While an exercise ball is actually detrimental to the building of specific muscle groups, where power lifting is the normal routine; it can actually improve the overall fitness gain from less intense aerobic activity. Since Pilates by design is a whole body workout, rather than a muscle group specific one, a Pilates ball will enhance, rather than detract from the goals you are trying to achieve.
